Josh Hamilton Texas Rangers. Not again!

What is going on in the world of baseball today? Let's see, The Yankees, Red Sox, Royals and Astros are in first place in their respective divisions. The first three are no surprise, but the Astros? Granted, we're only sixteen games into the season with a long way to go, but who would have ever thought the step-child of the American would be so audacious to shun the Angels and A's? Come June, I look for them to fall back to third or fourth place, but until that happens, I do hope they enjoy their time in the limelight.
In the National League, the upstart Mets and Rockies appears to have caught fire. I know we've seen this before from the Rockies, but the Mets? Could we have a WS between Houston and New York? Highly unlikely. Still, it's nice to dream.
The real story today is John Daniels and his bid to, you've got to kidding me, re-aquire Josh, drug user, alcohol abuser, carouser, Hamilton. What in the world is Daniels thinking? When I heard of the potential news I could only come up with one intelligent thought, John has been having dinner with Jerry Jones. Why? Jerry wrote the book on bringing in players of questionable character and then wondering why they didn't pan out. Well, looks like John wants to use Jerry's old playbook.
The Rangers aren't lacking in offense or defense. Okay, I'll admit, they have the consistency of women never changing their mind. Uh, huh. Up and down. Up and down. They have yet to win a series or string together more than two wins in a row. I don't blame it on the offense. One could make a point, I don't blame it on defense, even though Elvis' and Fielder's play are anything but All-Start caliber. No, it's the boys standing on the mound who are letting the team down. Poor performances and a bullpen which is at best, patchwork, is the Achilles heel.
Hamilton is not going to add a thing to an already somewhat solid outfield. Peguero, Martin, Smolinski and Choo are more than capable of shoring up the alleys. Beltre, Odur, Andrus? and Mooreland/Fielder have the infield well in hand. The DH duties are also handled between the boys sharing first base. Maybe Josh is going to replace Chirinos or the new addition, Corporan. Hmm. Don't see that happening. So, can someone honestly tell me or show me how Hamilton is a good acquisition? It just dawned on me. Josh will provide free advertising for the sports writers as they follow him around town waiting for him to give them something to write about off the field. He'll also provide jobs for at least four or five body, chaperon, guards to keep him on the straight and narrow and all for only $15 million dollars. Sounds like a well thought move to me.
And last but not least, why would the man who said the DFW area is not a baseball town even consider coming back? Appears he's more far gone than we've been led to believe.

Hey, Jerry. Let John eat dinner alone. The Rangers need help, not twenty years of mediocrity.

God, Self help, Motivation, Forgiveness, Spiritualism, Faith

The other day I was cleaning up email and browsing through the FB site I set up for my mom, RIP 7-2-2011. I was surprised when I ran across a post mom made about one of the stories I'd written. I will say this much, it did bring a tear to my eye. See, mom and I never had what people would call a close relationship. We spent most of days fighting or ignoring each other. It was safer that way especially when I sent back to Tulsa in 2004 to regroup and help my father in his final days.

Mom and I did not reconcile our differences until her final months. Here is her note.

My son Jeffrey has written a book with the above title. Being his mother, I really didn't understand everything he was going through much less understand why his demeanor went from being a very care free soul to one who for no fault on his own kept getting beaten down every road he tried. It was very difficult to try and reach out when he was unresponsive. Well as life would have it, he sat down and actually wrote about all of his losses and the impact it had on his life and those around him including myself. I really got to know my son through his writing. Yes is would be nice if you purchased a copy of his book, but the real value is what you will learn from his tribulations which were many. Failed business ventures, divorce, loss of children plus losing his partner, father and high school sweetheart of thirty years passed. I really didn't know if he would survive the last loss but somehow he amazingly learned from all of the tragedy's. So, please take the time to read about his life and learn how God is driving the bus, not us.

Jeff, Larry, Ralph, Debbie and God on life's unforgettable journey.

What I learned after reading this is, it's never too late to patch-up a rocky relationship.

Internet Dating, Russian Brides, Humor

Let us continue with my love life struggles as I attempt to dissuade true love from Eastern Europe. It amazes how men fall for these hotties from Russia, The Philippines, Asia or any other country. Men, the first item we need to examine is there ability to speak and write in the English language and not how big her cup size is. Granted, it doesn't hurt for us to look, but it you embark on bringing her home to meet Mom and Dad, then all is lost.

My current fling appears to be named, Valentina. Strange. First glance I thought it was Valentino. Didn't realize he was back from the dead. Okay, enough rambling. Let's have a look at the current letter.

My Response: Do you pole dance?

If you followed the stories of Nadezhda and Julia you understand how I would lead them on and on and on before they either gave up, threw in the towel or misplaced their English dictionaries. In this case I thought it best to just get to the point in hopes of not allowing her the time to ramble on. However, If she does respond I'll be jumping right into the thick of it.

One last note, let's post a pic and you tell me if she's related to Julia.

Maybe they're twins???
