Well, well, well. We, the American people waited sixty-four days to have a quote, Presidential press conference. I’m still waiting. I really was torn between watching, “Pride of the Yankees” with Gary Cooper or watching Biden. Believe me, it was a tough choice but one must make sacrifices. One sacrifice I would not make was listening to the pre-game carnival all of the networks were holding. Barnum and Bailey should have gone into the news racket instead of the Circus. They’d still be in business today. Instead of a three-ring circus, we get a five to six ring circus with a main event. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. When I saw Martha McCallum, all I could think about was the movie “Frozen.” Yep, she looked like a faux snow queen. Perhaps she’d be a stand in for the next one?
Okay, what did we learn today? Well, that’s a good question. One, one of the reporters should have tried asking. Wait, it would have had to be a prepared question. I don’t remember, Trump, McEnany or Sanders looking at a list of hand-picked reporters to call on or did I miss something?
First and foremost, the good. Biden’s administration has done an exemplary job in continuing with Trump’s “Warp Speed.” Whatever holes that were in the original plan in distribution have been addressed and plugged. It was no small feat. Producing a product then getting it into those who need it, is always a logistical challenge and it has been met with great success. That’s the good.
The okay. The American Rescue Act did pass. Folks, it only took six months to get this through. Could have happened back in October but Pelosi didn’t want to give Trump another win. Think about it, you waited six months for $1,400, that’s $233/month. What’s that translate into? For those who visit some of the finer establishments, eleven table dances and one drink? That’s about right. It sure won’t cover a family of four at an MLB game or Cowboys game, but it will feed a family of four for what, a week? What about the other twenty-three weeeks they waited?
Now for the bad and the ugly.
We know less now about the border crisis than two months ago. What we do know is the press will be granted full access when he’s ready for them to have access. Being a history buff, this is the same tactic the Germans used at POW and some of the concentration camps when they knew the Red Cross was coming to visit. Or of recent time when the North Vietnamese allowed reporters to interview POW’s. Yep, it was all a show. I would like to know why, when Joe was vice-president, we were building infrastructure, street lights, for other countries to reduce their crime rate when we can’t control it in our own country. He failed to mention what country and how low the crime rate fell. I can go through plenty of neighborhoods in Dallas where the street lights don’t work, but we need to spend money in other countries? Interesting.
Joe said migration has always been a problem, then he said, under his plan, with Obama, it wasn’t a problem. Well, according to Statista’s site, Alien Apprehensions peaked at 1.6 million in 2000. Remember when Clinton put more border guards on the Southern border? It worked. Apprehensions dropped dramatically under JR. Was that a result of new policies being passed, enforcing current laws or fewer trying to get across? From ’08 to ’16, there were minor upticks in arrests or detained illegals. Why? Under Trump those numbers escalated upward to just under 900k in 2019. Deportation numbers by Cato: Clinton 869K, JR 2.012 million, Obama 3.066 million and Trump 1.114 million. There was no precipitous drop in illegal immigration ,as Joe stated, when he was in charge of addressing the problem.
And why no question about all of the illegals in detention, being moved to different facilities being tested for COVID-19 and how are they being quarantined? And what was this about Trump starving children on the border? You think if that was actually going on the press wouldn’t have plastered that every day like they did with “kids in cages?” Damn right they would have! So, Joe, what’s your source on that one?
Why didn’t any reporter ask, “Do you believe Putin is a murderer and could you put that in context?” Yeah, that’d never get through the Vetter’s would it?
On the infrastructure, blaming it on Global Warming was ridiculous. The numbers he quoted have been published by ENR and Concrete Construction for decades. Remember when the bridge on I-35 collapsed in Minneapolis back in ’07? It was the talk of the town. Or I-40 in Oklahoma in 2002? And anyone who crossed the I-35 bridge, south of Norman or I-44 in Tulsa crossing the Arkansas, know all too well about a more than exciting trip. That one South of Norman always had me puckering up before it was replaced. I’ve worked on a lot of highways over the years and the only time we had to raise it three feet, as Joe said, wasn’t because of rising water. It was to improve drainage or eliminate a dangerous gradient area. In fact, sometimes, we lower the roads to achieve those results. And comparing our infrastructure spending to China is extremely laughable. A capitalist economy based on a communist economy? How many labor unions does China have? How many private, independent contractors bid on projects? How many bonds do they pass for improvements? How many private suppliers does China have for personnel profit? I believe that number is zero! He did make a bold statement that China will not become #1 in the world economy or power under his watch. Well, they’ve already surpassed us militarily, including naval force. So, how exactly are you going to stop their economic growth especially since you disagreed with every policy Trump passed concerning trade with China?
Moving on to the filibuster. If you do a cursory search, you can find where Biden got his thought pattern. Every article refers to Obama’s remarks, after John Lewis died, “And if all this takes eliminating the filibuster, another Jim Crow relic, in order to secure the God-given rights of every American,” said Obama, “then that’s what we should do.” What they fail to mention is when Democrat Storm Thurmond had a thirty-hour marathon against the Civil Rights Bill. And, the filibuster actually came to birth in 1794. I believe that was way before the Jim Crow Era. What was also interesting is that he didn’t know how the rules in the Senate work? How many decades were you in that body and still don’t have a clue? Interesting. What he alluded to was figuring out a way to eliminate it.
Who remembers his inspiring inauguration speech talking about all Americans, even those that voted for Trump and building unity in the country? Even though he’s only been in office for two months, as Psaki constantly keeps parroting, he believes he has unified the country? Based on what? He wanted all his bills to be bipartisan and then reiterated today, to paraphrase, “we’ll do it with or without them.” That’s unity? Interesting how the message has changed in such a short period of time isn’t it?
For over a decade Americans have wanted our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. We still approximately 5,000 troops stationed there. Why? 2,500 troops barely constitute a security group. This is where Trump locked horns with General Mattis. Trump wanted out after ISIS was defeated and had wanted to pull completely out of Afghanistan as the DOD couldn’t provide a solid mission plan for Afghanistan. Joe say he can’t be sure troops will be out by May 2nd and didn’t definitely say our troops wouldn’t be in country in 2022. Why?
Anyone really care if he or Trump are running in 2024? I don’t give two shits. But Kaitlyn and the gal from CBS thought those were thought provoking questions on every Americans mind? Get a life, it isn’t!
Almost forgot about North Korea testing two more missiles. He flippantly ignored it citing the UN resolution would handle it. Did hell freeze over? I think not. Yeah, let the UN handle this like they did the Korean Conflict, Somalia, Kosovo, etc.
Ah, yes. HR 1 came up in a round about way. I’ve heard the argument that Republicans are trying to pass draconian legislation on voting. All of the articles I’ve seen and read, want voter identification mandatory. What a novel idea. Prove you’re a US citizen, registered to vote in your city, county or state. HR 1 wipes all of that out. I’ve asked this before, where was all the voter suppression in 2020 when 74% of registered voters voted and it was the massive turn out by minorities that put Biden over the top? Bottom line, there wasn’t any.
And finally, who noticed with the last reporter, Biden exiting the wrong way from the podium? That gal took advantage of his misstep and bore in on the immigration issue. Yep, she threw him for a loop since he couldn’t reference his notes. He hurried the answer and then said, “I’m leaving,” and he did.
Now, I’m sure many of the left will say how calm, cool and collect it was. How civil it was and what a fresh breath of air he’s brought to the office. Well, naturally when you’ve told the press you have to submit questions before hand and if you act up, you won’t be invited back. It was almost comical to listen to the reporters shouting out questions as he walked out, knowing he wouldn’t answer them. Reminded me of Snagglepuss, “exit stage left.”
Should have watched, “Pride of the Yankees.” It is definitely more interesting and educational.
